I remember so many days, weeks, months when I dreaded walking the long distances within MD Anderson Cancer Center. Of course, “long” is relative. Weakened by hospitalizations, anemic and breathless, fatigued beyond belief–anything more than a few steps was tiring. A long walkway like this I would avoid like the plague.
Now I stop and appreciate how much healthier I am. I choose to walk this skybridge over Holcombe Boulevard because it connects to the better cafes and food courts, the ones that doctors and staff and guests at the Rotary House enjoy.
I feel normal.
